The Anna Maria Oyster Bar family of restaurants proudly announces its owner and founder, John Horne, received the Leadership Manatee Alumni Association’s esteemed Kent Schulz Award.
Now in its 22 year, Kent C. Schulz was a Leadership Alumnus who was always involved in our community and never hesitated to lend a hand. He lost his battle with cancer several years ago and as a tribute to his involvement in Manatee County, the Leadership Manatee Alumni Association created an award which is presented each year to a Leadership alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding service in the community and professional achievement.
John and the Horne family are committed to giving back to many causes and organizations in our area, and frequently host charitable functions at the four Anna Maria Oyster Bar locations. John also hosts, along with his wife Amanda, and Stewart & Trudy Moon, the Horne & Moon Social which raises funds for need-based scholarships for adults to return to school at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, State College of Florida and Manatee Technical College. The fund is administrated by Manatee Community Foundation.
Horne completed the Leadership Manatee program in 2007 and Leadership Florida in 2010. He also celebrates twenty years at the helm of the four Bradenton area Anna Maria Oyster Bars; the first location opened on the Anna Maria City Pier in 1997. John’s touch was unmistakable at yesterday’s award luncheon – a signature AMOB margarita greeted each guest!
