John Horne Wins Rotary Club of Anna Maria’s Businessperson of the Year Award

The Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Ceremony was held on Friday, November 16, where we’re extremely proud to share that Anna Maria Oyster Bar “Gran Jefe” John Horne proudly accepted the Rotary Club of Anna Maria Island’s Businessperson of the Year award.

With the support of his father in the audience (pictured above, along with John’s wife, Amanda), only one week following the passing of his mother, and the night also being John’s parents’ 61st wedding anniversary, it was a night filled with emotions for the Horne family.

AMOB has four locations in the Bradenton Area, though this particular award honors our Pier location on Bradenton Beach’s Historic Bridge Street. Co-directors of the Rotary Club of Anna Maria Island, Judy Rup and Dennis Schuermann, presented the award to Horne.

Our fearless leaders, John and Amanda, are known for their big hearts and deep involvement in our community, like pioneering the national award-winning Dive Into Reading summer reading program. The Oyster Bar Family also raises money for PACE, supports a variety of local educational initiatives, provides annual scholarships through the Manatee Education Foundation to adult students returning to higher education… and much, much more. Many of our philanthropic endeavors align with those of the Rotary Club, so this was a really special recognition for which we’re immensely grateful.

For more than 110 years, The Rotary Club of Anna Maria focuses on taking action on our world’s most persistent issues such as promoting peace, fighting diseases, supporting mothers, children, education and more.

Being a part of the Island community is so important to the AMOB family…this recognition means so much to us all.  Thank you!!
