AMOB IN THE COMMUNITY – SPRING 2018

SCF’s New Library & Learning Center Grand Opening

In February, we had the honor of representing the Bradenton Kiwanis at the State College of Florida’s grand opening for their newly constructed library. The Bradenton Kiwanis Foundation donated $10,000 to construct a Young Adult and Children’s Reading Room in SCF’s new Library & Learning Center.

According to SCF, “the Bradenton Kiwanis gift will add to the SCF library’s current collection of young adult and children’s literature, which is accessible to anyone with a Manatee or Sarasota County library card”. The new building looks like a phenomenal addition to the SCF campus.

Our Favorite Community Events Involve Good Food!

In case you missed it, we released a brand new addition to our menu – drum roll, please… The Tequila Lime Oysters! These were a fun creation from a competition we held between our kitchen staff at all four Oyster Bars. Read more about how they came about by clicking here.

They were first introduced at the 2018 Forks and Corks Food and Wine Festival, which turned guests into raving fans. We love supporting local events and nonprofit organizations, so we couldn’t stop there! We attended several others, preparing this new dish for guests to try.

We served the Tequila Lime Oysters up at the Bradenton Area EDC’s 30th Annual Hob Nob at Dolphin Aviation on February 22nd.  We’re proud EDC Investors and love supporting this event each year. Another restaurant unfortunately had to back out of participating in the event, so we were excited for the opportunity to serve two signature food items at two booths that night.  Our other menu item was Southern-Fried Chicken Skins with a Pimento Cheese sauce… OMG are those good! We’re still testing the recipe, but rest assured you’ll hear more about that, soon.

A few days later, on February 24th, we were excited to attend Beertopia. This event was presented by Eye Center, Inc.’s Vision Foundation. The Vision Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to providing eye care and glasses to underprivileged children in Manatee County, FL, with an exclusively charitable purpose.

Spirit of Manatee Luncheon

Each year, The Manatee Community Foundation hosts the Spirit of Manatee Luncheon. This luncheon draws senior business executives, philanthropists, professional fundraisers and volunteers from the region. It highlights local nonprofits or service clubs in Manatee County through several different award categories.  In 2017, John was humbled & proud to accept the Community Corporate Spirit Award on behalf of the Oyster Bars.

This year, we were happy for our friends at the Hernando de Soto Historical Society (including our brother Lynn who is the 2017-18 Captain of the Crewe!, Sandy & Jean Kirkpatrick, James Bruen & Jane Plitt, Kara McAllister, and our *new* friend, Oscar Portillo-Meza who was incredibly impressive receiving the Youth Spirit Award. We were pleased to be at this luncheon, which celebrated those in our community that are making a difference.
